Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a consultant if I’m already communicating with the schools?

In the NYC market, you aren’t just competing with thousands of applicants; you are navigating a complex ecosystem of "unwritten rules." As a former Director of Admissions, I know that what a school says on a tour is only 10% of the story. I provide the other 90%—the strategy, the committee psychology, and the narrative "hook" that ensures your child doesn’t just meet the criteria but stands out from the crowd.

When is the "right" time to start this process?

The most successful outcomes begin well before the first application is opened. For NYC independent schools, I recommend starting the "Essential" phase in the spring or early summer. This allows us to build a strategic school list and refine your family’s narrative without the frantic pressure of fall deadlines.

My child is high-achieving; isn't that enough for an elite school?

In a pool where nearly every applicant is high-achieving, academic excellence is simply the baseline—it’s not the "win." Committees look for "fit," "contribution," and "community alignment." I help you translate your child’s achievements into the specific language that committees use to build a balanced class.

How involved are you in the actual writing of the applications?

I act as the "Chief Strategist" and editor. While I do not write the applications for you—authenticity is the first thing a Director looks for—I provide high-level narrative coaching. We work together to ensure your Parent Statement and Student Portfolio are polished, purposeful, and professional.

Do you guarantee placement at a specific school?

No ethical consultant can guarantee placement. However, I do guarantee that your family will have a Director-level strategy. I ensure your portfolio is the strongest possible version of itself and that you are applying to a strategically vetted list of schools where your child has a genuine opportunity to thrive.
