Behind the Scenes - What folks are saying

What always stood out to me about Beverly was her combination of deep knowledge, genuine care, and unwavering professionalism. She consistently made parents feel included and valued, and she brought wonderful initiatives to the school that strengthened the community—parent ambassador programs, families greeting prospective parents at admissions events, pairing incoming families with returning ones, and even parent-led tours. ~ Cassandre S. and Christoph S., Parents
We relocated from New Zealand and returned to Brooklyn with finding the perfect NY school as the driver and seeing Bev’s name as the Director of Admissions at Berkeley Carroll was for me, kismet at hand (she accepted our children at another independent school before she became Director at BC). Sure enough, she laid it out straight as always, and then paved the way for my family to put our best foot forward. I imagine most admissions team members have an end to the student's journey that ironically ends with day 1 at the new school. I put Beverly outside of this box. Her presence extends far beyond. And while BC will no doubt miss her massively, the time for which they had her will stand on high. ~ Sam Shaffer, Parent
From the very beginning, Bev guided us through our daughter’s admissions process; her warmth, insight, and care made all the difference. Bev helped us see that Berkeley Carroll was the right place for her and she was right! Then, when it came time for our other daughter, Bev was once again such a thoughtful and reassuring presence, making the process feel personal and meaningful instead of daunting. We are grateful for Bev welcoming our family so wholeheartedly and for shaping our experience at BC in such a special way. We feel so lucky to have been part of the community she’s built. ~ Lucky and Bobby, Parents
My girls are my heart and entrusting them to a school that would have such an indelible mark on their lives took careful consideration. Bev, as Head of Lower School Admissions, literally sculpted the culture of the student body at BC; that same culture is the confidence, intelligence, and growth in my girls, which has benefited my family, and that would not have been possible without her. ~ M. Mitchell, Parent

Beverly’s work and commitment was a big reason why we were inspired to join the BC community and I know countless other families who feel the same way. ~ The McIntyre Family, Parents
For a decade, Beverly was so dedicated to her work and goals in admissions. Those qualities were an evident selling factor during the admissions process for our family..leading us to our top school choice. I applaud Beverly for her years of efforts, and trust that we will find community among the wonderful family units she has been instrumental in guiding into the school. ~ Crystal T., Parent

For 10 successful years, Beverly created extraordinary work in curating BC's community. We felt genuinely welcomed by her and her team and we are very grateful! ~ The Smith-Friedman Family, Parents
To say that Bev will be missed by our BC community is a vast understatement. I feel so blessed to have gotten to know her during the last few years while I've been on the board. Since my daughter entered in the 6th grade, we didn't have the pleasure of meeting Bev sooner. I see how the lower school and this community have been deeply touched and shaped because of all she has done in the past decade, and I know that her role was incredibly tough but she did it with so much grace. I hope Bev’s next chapter is inspiring and feeds her spirit, and I hope she’s excited to step into her next life adventure. ~ Ufasaha Y., Parent of recent graduate and Board Member
Tina and I are so grateful for everything Bev’s done for our family and the larger BC community. She was a very significant reason that we fell in love with the school in the first place. ~ Matt and Tina H., Parents
The school is definitely going to miss Bev’s dynamic leadership, and Shayla and I will certainly miss her positive energy and enthusiasm. We are forever grateful to Bev for admitting our daughter. It literally changed the course of our lives and has given us so many wonderful experiences and new friendships. ~George C., Parent
Michael and I cannot thank Bev enough for the wonderful students she brought together to form the school my children love attending every day, and where they are led forth to learning in the spirit of goodwill. I have always been struck by her remarkable lack of pretension. Despite the weight of her role and the prestige of her background, she led with a groundedness that is truly rare. ~ Craig C. and Michael A.
I have fond memories of sweating in the parent interviews. But once they happened, Beverly was easy to talk to. BC is better off for her having been a part of it. ~Juan Barahona, Parent and Board Member
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words how grateful I am for Ms. Beverly and everything she’s done for me. She’s the reason I’m even at BC, and honestly, that has completely changed my life in ways I didn’t even expect. Because of her, I was able to rediscover my love of writing. I used to write a lot when I was younger, but being at BC gave me the confidence to actually be a writer and believe that my voice matters. I recall the first time I met Ms. Beverly, how kind, welcoming, and warm she was. She made me feel like I truly belonged here before I even became a student. I think that’s such a special gift she has, making people feel seen, supported, and encouraged. I will always remember how she believed in me from the very start, and that’s something I’ll carry with me forever. ~ G.O., Student
From the very beginning, Beverly stood out as one of the warmest, most knowledgeable admissions professionals we encountered during what can often be a stressful and overwhelming process. She is truly an expert in independent school admissions. Her deep understanding of every phase of the process—combined with her empathy, professionalism, and attention to detail—made all the difference for our family. She took the time to guide us thoughtfully at every step, ensuring we felt informed, supported, and confident in our decisions. Even after the admissions process concluded, Beverly continued to be an advocate for our children and a trusted resource within the school community. For any family navigating this complex process, I can say with complete confidence that Beverly is the very best in the business. ~ Lynne A., Parent
